Encouraging Others’ Dreams: Supporting Aspirations

But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, giving thanks to his God.<br />

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

 Galatians 6:9 (ESV)

Have you ever had a dream that you just couldn’t shake? Something that you were so passionate about that you had to pursue it? Maybe it was to start your own business, write a book, or travel the world. Whatever it was, you knew that it was something you had to do.

But what if you didn’t have the support of your friends and family? What if they told you that your dream was impossible, or that you were crazy for even trying? It can be tough to keep going when you’re facing that kind of opposition.

That is where I was blessed when Jenna and I decided to start our businesses. We had and still have the loving support and encouragement from those around us.

I remember a few years ago when we decided to bring in Gary Chapman, the author of the 5 Love Languages to Durango. We partnered with a church because we went to church in a little church that was 30 miles from town. We met with the administrator and the pastor of the church in town to see if they would be willing to help us with a space.

We had never met them before, so I can’t imagine what was going through their minds.

Then one day Jenna and I were shopping, and we ran into the administrator and her husband. As luck would have it, I knew her husband because he worked for a company that we worked with.

I later found out that he was instrumental in the church allowing us the space to host Gary for the one-day couples conference. She asked him, “What do you think, do you think he is actually going to bring Gary Chapman to Durango?” His answer shocked even me when she told me about it after the event.

He said, “If this is anything like his company, then Dan runs a tight ship and when he says that something will happen, he will make sure it happens! There is no doubt that if this is anything like his company then it will be AMAZING!”

That right there is the power of encouragement. When someone believes in you, it can make all the difference. It can give you the strength to keep going when you’re feeling discouraged, and it can help you to see that your dream is possible.

And I didn’t even know that I had his encouragement. Lol

That’s why it’s so important to encourage others’ dreams. When you do, you’re not just helping them to achieve their goals, you’re also helping them to grow and develop as people. You’re showing them that they’re capable of anything they set their minds to and that they’re not alone in their journey.

Here are a few ways to encourage others’ dreams:

  • Listen to them. When someone tells you about their dream, take the time to really listen to what they have to say. Ask questions and let them know that you’re interested in their goals.
  • Be supportive. Let the person know that you believe in them. Tell them that you think they can achieve their dream and offer to help in any way you can.
  • Celebrate their successes. When the person makes progress towards their dream, celebrate with them! This will show them that you’re proud of them, and it will motivate them to keep going.

Encouraging others’ dreams is a powerful way to make a difference in someone’s life. When you believe in someone, and you show them that you believe in them, you can help them to achieve anything they set their minds to.

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you for the gift of dreams. Help us to never give up on our dreams, no matter what obstacles we face. Help us to be supportive of others’ dreams, and to help them to achieve their goals. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Dear God,

Thank you for the gift of dreams. Dreams are what give us hope and motivation to keep going, even when things are tough. They are the driving force behind our accomplishments and the reason we wake up in the morning.

I pray that you will help me to never give up on my dreams, no matter what obstacles I face. Help me to stay focused and determined, even when things get hard. Give me the strength to keep going when I want to quit, and the wisdom to know when to take a break.

I also pray that you will help me to be supportive of others’ dreams. Let me be a source of encouragement and inspiration to those around me. Help me to see the potential in others, and to help them to achieve their goals.

I know that I am not perfect and that I will make mistakes along the way. But I trust that you will always be with me, guiding me and helping me to reach my full potential.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Here are some additional thoughts and prayers that you can include in your own prayer:

  • Ask God to help you to identify your dreams and to develop a plan for achieving them.
  • Pray for the courage to take risks and to step outside of your comfort zone.
  • Ask God to give you the strength to persevere through challenges and setbacks.
  • Thank God for the people who support you and who help you to achieve your dreams.

Action Step:

Think of someone you know who is pursuing a dream. Reach out to them and let them know that you believe in them. Offer them your support and encourage them to keep going.
