Encouraging Team Communication: Building Harmony
“Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
Ephesians 4:31-32 (ESV)
In any team—whether it’s at work, in a community group, or even within our families—effective communication is key to building harmony. When we communicate with kindness and understanding, we create an environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
Ephesians 4:31-32 gives us clear guidance on how to foster this kind of environment: “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” This passage encourages us to put aside negative behaviors and attitudes and to embrace kindness, empathy, and forgiveness.
I’ve seen firsthand how important this is in both my personal and professional life. Whether I’m working with my team at Eclipse DOT or navigating the daily adventures of family life, the principles of effective and compassionate communication are essential.
For instance, when working on a project with my team, it’s easy for stress and misunderstandings to creep in, especially when deadlines are tight. But by focusing on clear, kind communication and actively listening to each other, we can navigate challenges without letting negative emotions take over. This not only helps us complete our projects more effectively but also strengthens our relationships and builds a supportive team environment.
Similarly, at home, working with my kids on various projects—from school assignments to building a gocart—has taught me a lot about the importance of patience and understanding. When we communicate with love and forgiveness, we create a space where everyone feels safe to express themselves and grow. Even when I go to my tool box, all of my screwdrivers are missing! lol
Building harmony in our teams and families starts with each of us. By choosing to let go of bitterness and anger, and instead embracing kindness and forgiveness, we can transform our relationships and create a positive, supportive environment.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of communication and the relationships we have in our teams and families. We come before You today, seeking Your guidance in building harmony through effective and compassionate communication.
Lord, help us to remember the wisdom from Ephesians 4:31-32, to put away bitterness, wrath, and anger, and to embrace kindness, tenderheartedness, and forgiveness. Teach us to communicate with empathy and understanding, creating environments where everyone feels valued and respected.
Fill our hearts with Your love so that it overflows into our interactions with others. May our words be tools of encouragement and unity, building up those around us and fostering strong, harmonious relationships. Help us to be mindful of the needs and feelings of others, responding with grace and compassion.
Grant us the strength to manage conflicts with patience and wisdom, seeking resolutions that maintain harmony and respect. Remind us to celebrate achievements, to listen actively, and to encourage open dialogue within our teams.
Father, guide us in being examples of Your love and forgiveness. Let our actions and words reflect Your grace, bringing glory to Your name and strengthening our bonds with one another.
We ask for Your forgiveness for the times we’ve spoken harshly or let negative emotions take over. Help us to learn from these moments and to grow in our ability to communicate positively and constructively.
Lord, we pray for a heart that seeks to build others up, that values kindness and understanding. May our efforts to encourage team communication and build harmony bring glory to Your name and reflect our identity as Your children.
Thank You for Your constant presence and for guiding our words and actions. We trust in Your wisdom and love to lead us in becoming better communicators and encouragers.
In Jesus’ name, we pray.
Amen.
