Giving Credit to God.

“A man of God came to me. He looked like an angel of God, very awesome.”

Judges 13:6

As we continue through the book of Judges, chapter 13 is filled with wisdom that you have to read between the lines to find.

Webster’s dictionary definition of the word awesome as: 1 a : inspiring awe an awesome task/responsibility a place of awesome beauty. b informal : terrific, extraordinary.

How would you describe an angle of God?

I would have to say that the word awesome fits extremely well here.

As we read further in chapter 13, we learn what it means to be humble and to truly only care about giving ALL credit to God.

‘Then Manoah inquired of the angel of the Lord, What is your name, so that we may honor you when your word comes true? He replied, Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding. ‘ Judges 13:17-18

When Manoah (Sampson’s dad) tried to honor the angle, he did not accept it. In fact, he couldn’t even imagine why they would want to honor him, instead of God.

Luckily, angels are extremely good at convincing people to give the credit to God where it belongs instead of giving to them.

I want you to think back to the last time something happened to you.

It shouldn’t be too tough, because things happen all the time.

Was it a good or a bad thing that happened?

How did you feel?

What was your first reaction?

Did God cross your mind at all?

Were you able to thank him for the experience, good or bad?

I know that was a TON of questions, but those are the questions I ask myself every day.

Did I truly give God credit for EVERYTHING that has happened in my life today?

Recently Jenna and I decided that we love to travel, We’ve always known that, but what really hit us was that we might want to travel slightly differently than we have in the past.

In the past we have always driven and stayed in hotels. (That gets expensive, and our stomachs don’t always love us because of the food we chose to eat.)

So, we started looking for a motorhome.

First off, we thought maybe we would like a HUGE Class A. you know the ones that are a tour bus that has been converted.

So, we looked at a few of those, and after we recovered from the price shock, we decided that those were more a couple coach, and not really made for families.

Then we thought, hey let’s look into one of those Super Cs. You know campers that are built on the back of a Freightliner truck.

So, we looked at a few of those and decided that those were not what we needed either.

You might be thinking how does this relate to giving God credit for EVERYTHING?

I’m getting there¦

When we got from a trip to the redwoods and crater lake, we sat down as a couple and prayed.

Our prayer wasn’t for God to provide the right camper, it was a prayer that he shows us what we should do that will serve him the best.

Through a social media ad, he showed us a 5th-wheel trailer and we started looking into them.

We found several that were good, but every time we prayed about God told us, Wait.

So, we waited.

Finally, he showed us one that we loved.

I know what you’re thinking, Dan how does getting a 5th wheel compare to giving credit to God.

I’m getting there, I promise.

You see, if we would have made the decision by ourselves, we would have come home with a rig that wasn’t right for us.

Instead, we prayed, and prayed, and prayed, and even prayed some more. And this was about an insignificant decision, like buying a camper.

Where do you think we learned to pray about everything, especially the important decisions? Like what to write in these devotionals, or where to raise our kids, or should we start a nonprofit, or our business?

God taught us!

We weren’t done praying about our camper though.

After we brought it home, we prayed again. God show us how to use this for you! Show us exactly what you NEED us to do with it for you, to help spread your word.

Then he gave both Jenna and I the idea to add verses to it. Add the God First Logo to every side and put verses on the back and both sides. Carry bibles with you, and when someone needs one, give it to them. Show charity to others as you travel. Teach your kids not to be afraid to show their love for God to anyone anywhere. Be true leaders in the Christian faith everywhere you take this BEAST of a rig!

So, we did everything he told us.

Let me tell you, when you pull into a RV park with a 44  5th wheel that has verses on every side, you get noticed.  There has not been one place that we have been where God has not introduced either us or the kids to someone because of that.

We have literally gotten to stop setting up, several times, to have a conversation with someone, simply because of the verses that are declared on our rig.

And every time it happens, we pray. God that you for the opportunities that you give us.

Here is the thing about all this.

When you give God FULL credit for everything that happens in your life, it shows. He continues to give you more. When you are a GREAT steward of his creation and ideas, he gives you more.

Today I want to encourage everyone to Live a God First Life. Put God first in every aspect of your life and thank him for everything that happens! Give him FULL credit for EVERYTHING and just see where he takes you next. You will be amazed, and it will be AWESOME!

Prayer

God, we come to you today with full hearts. Not for the luxuries you give us in our lives (like campers) but for the opportunities you give us in our lives. The amazing, awesome opportunities that you bless us with every single day. You give us so much more than we deserve. You bless us with more than we could ever imagine.

When we steward your ideas, you continue to give us more ideas. When you give God credit for what he has done in our lives, you continue to give us more.  More life, more luxuries, more love, more amazingness (if that is even a word). God, we are so grateful for the life you have given each and every one of us. You know exactly what we need, and you bless us even more than that.

God, we pray today that you help us to take what you have given unto us and share it with the world. Imagine if Jesus would have kept his life a secret, or if Joseph would have not interpreted the dream, or if Moses would have never gone back to Egypt, or if Daniel would have not had faith, or it…  you get the point.

God, please help us to live the LIFE you NEED us to live and to give you FULL credit for every aspect of that life!

Amen
