God is here for us
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves.”
Zephaniah 3:17 NIV
One of my favorite arguments for non-believers is when they say, I can’t see him so he must NOT exist.
Then the little one answers back, Does air exist?
Nonbeliever, of course it does, how could we breathe if it didn’t exist?
Little Girl, does Helium make balloons float?
Non-believer, That’s a silly question, of course, helium makes balloons float.
Little Girl, do the rays from the sun, burn your skin? Can you see those rays? Can you talk on your cell phone without having it connected to any wires? And can you see those waves?
Non-believer getting perturbed now, Yes I get sunburned, and no I can’t see the rays. Yes, my cell phone works just fine and I can NOT see the waves. Where are you going with this?
Little Girl, well you just told me like 5 things that you KNOW are there, a couple you can’t live without, like air. So why can’t you believe that God exists even though you can’t see him?
I know that we’ve all heard that story before, but it’s a good reminder that even though we can’t see some things it doesn’t mean that they don’t exist.
Just like God.
God is there for us even when we can’t see or hear him. He is constantly watching out for us.
Not only is he there, but he is also watching out for us, fighting battles that we can’t even see.
Every time we think about sinning, that is Satin using a pry bar to get into our lives.
If we allow God to be there to help us he is on the inside of the door repairing where Satan used the pry bar and making it stronger.
What happens if your house gets broken into?
Do you simply replace the locks?
NO!
You replace the locks and beef up other security features all-around your house.
Well, God does the same thing with us.
Let’s say that you have an addiction to anything. Yes, even your cell phone. What happens when we finally recognize that we need to correct our addiction?
If we give it to God, he helps us to install new security features around our life. He helps us to get rid of the temptation.
Then every time we have the urge to jump on our phone to check Facebook (except for the God First Page, lol) he puts the thought in our mind, Hey you’ve got better things to do!
It’s our job to listen when he talks to us.
My point is that God is here for us.
He helps us, he fights battles that we may never see.
We are blessed though because we have already taken the first step and KNOW that God exists.
Action:
Here are a few things that you can do today to help God be there for you.
- Take a moment every night and every morning to thank God for being there for you. Thank him for being the mighty warrior he is. Thank him for never leaving a person behind. Thank him for never giving upon us.
- Look around for God in your life. Take a deep breath and enjoy the air that just filled your lungs. Know that just because you can’t see him, just like you can’t see the air you just took in, he is there.
- Last but not least, close your eyes, and listen. What do you hear? The wind rustling in the weeds, the waves crashing onto the shore, the rain dripping on the roof, cars driving by. You might not hear it right now, but all of those sounds were brought to you by our mighty warrior, God.
Prayer
Lord, God almighty, we come to you today with full hearts. They are full because we know that you exist and that you are fighting battles that we might never see on our behalf. Lord, we are thankful that you are willing to fight for us. We would like to let you know that we are ready to fight you too.
Help give us the courage to spread your word, even when it might seem tough to. Help us to have no fear when it comes to you. Give the faith to know that no matter what happens you have our back and that you will protect us.
God, sometimes we struggle to see you, we struggle to hear you, we struggle to believe in you. Help us to know that just because we can always see you, you are always there with us. Open our eyes and ears to see and hear you, even when we have closed off our minds to you.
God, we are so grateful that you help us rebuild and strengthen ourselves after a battle. You help us to move forward. Lord, please give us the strength to fight every battle no matter how big or small it might be with you in our hearts.
Lord, thank you for everything that you do for us. Even if we can’t see it.
Amen
