Encouraging Self-Empowerment: Inner Dialogue

But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, giving thanks to his God.<br />

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

 Philippians 4:13 (ESV)

We all have those days when we feel like we can’t do anything. We’re tired, we’re stressed, and we just want to give up. But what if I told you that you have the power to overcome those feelings? What if I told you that you can empower yourself to do anything you set your mind to?

The key is to start with your inner dialogue. The way you talk to yourself has a big impact on your self-confidence and your ability to achieve your goals. If you’re constantly telling yourself that you can’t do something, then you’re not giving yourself a chance to succeed.

Henry Ford said it best when he said, “Whether you believe you can or can’t you are right”. It is 100% up to us to know if we can achieve something or not. A great example was when I went to install powered running boards on my pickup. I took the time and got the running boards mounted and now for the “hard” part hooking up the power to them.

I grew up in a house where my dad was a mechanic, and my brother became a mechanic too. So, I had the knowledge to run the wires for my running boards and simply plug them in. It was literally that simple. But when it came time to run the wires I froze. I “couldn’t” figure out how to get the wires into the cab. So, I called my brother and asked him if he had time to come look at it.

He showed up and we had them hooked in about 10 minutes. He had the confidence to find the right place to run the plug into the cab. Where I did NOT believe that I could find the right place.

I’d like to encourage you next time instead of focusing on what you can’t do, try to focus on your strengths and abilities. What are you good at? What are you passionate about? When you focus on your strengths, you’ll start to feel more confident and capable.

For example, let’s say you’re feeling overwhelmed by a big project at work. You might be tempted to tell yourself that you’re not good enough to do it, or that you’ll never finish it. But if you focus on your strengths, such as your attention to detail or your ability to work under pressure, you’ll start to feel more confident in your ability to complete the project.

You also need to be realistic about your goals. Don’t set yourself up for failure by trying to do too much too soon. Break your goals down into smaller, more manageable steps. This will make them seem less daunting and more achievable.

I also encourage you to set BIG goals, and then break them down into digestible pieces. If you want to make 1 million dollars, don’t think about making a million dollars think about how many things you would have to sell to hit that million. An example would be that all I have to do is sell 1000 courses for $100 to make 1 million. Selling 1000 courses is much more achievable than making a million dollars. Want to break it down even further to make it even more digestible? Then say how many courses you have to sell every month. That’s only 84 courses every month. or 19 a week, or 3 a day.

Another example might be if you want to lose 20 pounds. Instead of trying to lose all of the weight at once, set a goal to lose 5 pounds in the first month. Once you reach that goal, you can set a new goal to lose another 5 pounds, and so on. Or simply say I’m going to increase my protein intake to 150 Grams a day and stay under 2000 calories.

Finally, don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you’re struggling, don’t be afraid to reach out to a friend, family member, or therapist. They can help you to stay motivated and on track.

I can’t tell you the amount of times I have HAD to reach out to people for help and encouragement. Tony Robbins says that proximity is power.  That means that the ones around you are the ones that give you the power to succeed or fail.

I like to say that you are the sum of the 10 people that you are closest to. If they are all alcoholics, broke, and in deep depression, then you are more likely to follow suit and be at least 2 of those things. Or if you hang around people who are positive, wealthy, and making investments instead of just surviving, then you will be more likely to be like them.

Simply put if you want to be a winner you have to hang around with winners.

Remember, you have the power to empower yourself. Start by changing your inner dialogue, focusing on your strengths, being realistic about your goals, and asking for help when you need it. With a little effort, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

Here are some additional tips for empowering yourself:

  • Set goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.
  • Create a plan for how you’re going to achieve your goals.
  • Take action and don’t give up.
  • Celebrate your successes, no matter how small.
  • Surround yourself with positive people who will support you.
  • Believe in yourself and your ability to achieve anything you set your mind to.

Prayer

Prayer for Self-Empowerment

 Dear God,

We come to you today seeking your help in empowering ourselves. We know that we have the power to achieve anything we set our minds to, but we often need your guidance and strength to get there.

Help us to change our inner dialogue so that we focus on our strengths and abilities. We often talk to ourselves in a negative way, telling ourselves that we can’t do something or that we’re not good enough. Help us to change that dialogue so that we focus on our positive qualities and our ability to achieve our goals.

Help us to be realistic about our goals. We don’t want to set ourselves up for failure by setting unrealistic goals. Help us to break our goals down into smaller, more manageable steps. This will make them seem less daunting and more achievable.

Help us to ask for help when we need it, especially from you! We’re not meant to do everything on our own. There are people who love and support us, and they are willing to help us achieve our goals. Help us to be humble enough to ask for help when we need it.

Help us to surround ourselves with positive people who will support us. We need to be around people who believe in us and who will encourage us to reach our full potential. Help us to identify the negative people in our lives and to distance ourselves from them.

We believe that you are the source of all power and that you can help us to achieve anything we set our minds to. We trust in your love and guidance, and we ask for your help in empowering ourselves.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
